About the Spotted Dog
History
Originally a blacksmith & forge during the mid 1800’s, the site has evolved with various alterations to become what is now known as The Spotted Dog Pub. In the late 1800’s it was owned by Mr Marshall who was a local builder & beer retailer; similarly the previous landlord, Stewart Luker, was also a local builder. August 2011 saw the pub take on its current landlords, that's us - Kevin and Caz.
Location
The pub is located just off the main road that runs through Cold Ash and sits next to another local pub, The Castle. The Spotted Dog is a traditional English pub with wooden beams, low ceilings and a log fire in the winter. It's a place where you are assured a good beer, quality food and very warm welcome.
Beer, Wine and Food
Open daily, we serve a selection of real ales and a variety of wines, spirits & soft drinks. We offer locally sourced, fresh home cooked food, available in the bar and our newly refurbished restaurant/dining room. Our Traditional menu tries to cater for everyone and includes a Pensioners and Children's menu. Tuesday nights are Italian night with our 2 and 3 course set menu.
Our kitchen has undergone a major refurbishment and now has a professsional pizza oven allowing us to produce tasty authentic home made Italian Pizzas - available in the pub, for collection or local delivery.
Facilities
The pub has one main bar with another small one in our restaurant. Outside we have a large wooden decked area with plenty of tables and chairs. For the children we have an enclosed play area with swings, slide, play den and a small climbing wall.
Our Restaurant can be hired for private functions, business meetings or as an off site training room and comes complete with free wi-fi.
We have a dartboard and are home to two darts teams that play in a local league on Monday nights. New players are always welcome, just let us know if you're interested.
Events
We plan to have live music in the pub when we can, and show live sports and host special events. These will be listed on our Events page.
